"Where Would Music Be Without Tori Amos?"

This is one of the best articles/essays I've read about Tori Amos in quite some time -- maybe even one of the best ever. For Ears with Feet (diehard fans) or those willing to dive into a raw, contemplative, fair look at Tori, her career, and her place in our culture, this is a must. It's worth 15 minutes of your time to pour through Sady Doyle's post on BuzzFeed. Thanks goes to my brother Jordan for passing it along.

My Mathematical Pop Culture Soul: Vol. 1

If my soul were composed of pop culture pieces strung together into a mathematical equation, it would look something like this. I'll post future installments -- this is just the first volume. You'll note I'm using just one example per artistic medium.

Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle

Plus Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes

Multiplied by David Lynch's & Mark Frost's Twin Peaks

Divided by Sam Mendes' & Alan Ball's American Beauty

Subtracted from Gregory Crewdson's photograph, Ophelia

Equals Miki's The Thinker

Quote of the Day

"Mustn't violate the sacred rules of magic, Natalie thought sleepily. Never wish for anything until it's ready for you. Never try to make anything happen until it's on its way. The formal way is best, after all; no short cuts allowed in this passage."

~ from Shirley Jackson's Hangsaman
